Obituary

Charles Edward Wicks left this world on April 19, 2025, at his residence in Starkville, Mississippi. He was born on October 17, 1956 in Lowndes County Mississippi to the late Reverend Ezell and Modess Wicks. He was a man of great character, whose life was marked by hard work, dedication, and a profound love for his family.

Growing up, he spent many hours farming alongside his father and brother Hubert, which instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the land. He graduated from B.L. Moor High School in 1974 and earned his Bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University, where he developed a lifelong passion for learning and community engagement.

He had a diverse career, having worked at UltraTech in Columbus, Mississippi and the T. K. Martin Center at Mississippi State University. Later, he worked for the Social Security Administration as a claim specialist until retirement. His commitment to service and his ability to connect with others made a lasting impact on those he encountered throughout his professional journey.

In his personal life, he faced adversities that would have made many individuals give up, however, he persevered. Even his physicians referred to him as a living miracle. He was determined to become successful and independent in life. He knew this could only be accomplished through education and the values instilled in him at an early age. He was an avid sports enthusiast, finding joy in watching the news and cheering for his favorite teams. He had a particular fondness for Formula One racing and car shows. His laughter and enthusiasm were infectious and he will always be remembered for his warm spirit and kind heart.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and four brothers, Bobby Sr., Ezell Jr., Hubert, and James Sr.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter, Latonya Michelle Williams; and his cherished grandchild, Darquez "Bear" Williams. He is also survived by three siblings, George M. Wicks Sr., Livian J. Wicks-Stovall, and Sharon G. (Willie) Murray; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever hold his memory close.
