Charlie Bell Evans, Jr., affectionately known as "Shot," was born in Crawford, MS, to Charlie B. Evans, Sr. and Lillie Dell Evans. His journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and a spirit that touched all who knew him.
Charlie spent his formative years in Kankakee, Illinois, where he not only excelled academically, earning his high school diploma from Westview High School, but also showcased his athletic ability on the football field. His passion for sports remained a lifelong love, and he was an avid supporter of various teams, always cheering with enthusiasm and pride.
After returning to Mississippi, Charlie embarked on a fulfilling career, dedicating 21 years of service to Omnova Solutions, following earlier roles at Baldor. His work ethic and commitment were evident in every endeavor he undertook, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Beyond his professional life, Charlie found joy in the great outdoors. He cherished fishing, hunting, and riding four-wheelers, often sharing these experiences with family and friends. His love for travel took him to cherished destinations, including New Orleans, the Gulf Coast, and back to Kankakee, where he created lasting memories.
A devoted member of Abundant Life Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor Craig Morris, Charlie served as an usher and was an active participant in the Men's On A Mission group. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his relationships and community involvement.
Charlie shared a beautiful 43-year marriage with his beloved wife, Lillian Shields Evans. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Their bond was a testament to the power of partnership and devotion.
Charlie departed this life on August 28, 2025, in Columbus, Mississippi.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lee Bernard Jones.
Charlie leaves to cherish his memories: a loving wife, Lillian Evans of Columbus, MS; his children, Kenneth (Stacy) Evans of Birmingham, AL, Justin Evans of Stone Mountain, GA, Quiveta Shields and Viar Shields both of Columbus, MS, Nicole Fenton of New York, NY; his siblings, Faye Coleman of Birmingham, AL and Johnny Evans of Crawford, MS; seven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength that will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.
