Colette B. Givens was born April 4, 1962 in Artesia, MS to Alonzo and Irma Whitfield Givens. Colette confessed Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of New Hope C.M.E. Church in Artesia, MS. She attended Motley school and graduated with the class of 1980.She continued her education to Mary Holmes Community College where she earned her Associate's Degree. Colette was formerly employed with Johnston Tombigbee Furniture and later with Aurora Australis Lodge as a C.N.A.

Colette was loved by her family, friends, and community. She enjoyed fishing and reading in her spare time. Family gatherings were a special part of her lifetime, partaking in fellowship and food.

Colette departed this life on October 28, 2022 in Columbus, MS. She is preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents,  Mr. John D. Whitfield Sr. and Mrs. Vergie Whitfield; 2 sisters, Annie Bluitt and Betsy Givens; one brother, Desi Givens, Sr.

Colette's memories will forever be cherished by: 2 sons, Shunta Givens and Jaray Givens both of Artesia, MS; 1 daughter, Leslie Hendrix of Starkville, MS; a special partner, Tommie Drake; 6 grandchildren, Kaylen Givens, Kamryn Givens, Shania Givens, Jaray Givens, Jr., Mariah Ellis, and Shadira Evans; one great-grandchild, Rylan Wells; 2 brothers, Randolph Givens, Sr. of San Jose, CA and Lorenzo Givens of Winter Park, FL; 5 sisters, Jeanette Givens and Annette Givens both of San Jose, CA, Sharon Givens, Sheila (Emmit) Dickerson, and Theresa Givens all of Artesia, MS; three aunts, Shirley Whitfield of San Antonio, TX, Ella Whitfield of Chicago, IL, Mattie B. Johnson of Columbus, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
