Deacon Arthur
Hairston Sr.
November 4, 1945 – February 27, 2024
Arthur Hairston Sr., was born Sunday, November 4, 1945, in Lowndes County Mississippi, to Laura and Albert Hairston Sr. He transitioned from his earthly home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
Arthur obtained his education from the Lowndes County School District. He embarked on a construction career at a young age with Valley Construction Company, dedicating 25 years to the company. Subsequently, he joined R & D Maintenance until his retirement. After entering retirement, Arthur served as maintenance personnel for Charity Mission Full Gospel Baptist Church from February 7, 2000 until his passing.
In 1982, Arthur accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and became a member of Charity Mission M.B. Church. On April 17, 1983, he was ordained as a Deacon, becoming one of the initial set of Deacons under Bishop Bobby L McCarter's administration, dedicating over 40 years of service. He also served on the Board of Directors for Charity Mission Full Gospel Church, as well as Charity Village School. In addition to being a part of the Deacon Ministry and a faithful member of Charity Mission, Arthur was an Active Volunteer Fireman and Rescue Team Member for District 4 of Crawford, MS. He had a servant heart and loved helping anyone who was in need.
Arthur was united in Holy Matrimony to Martha Harris, on April 8, 1972, remaining married for over 51 years until his passing.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Laura and Albert Hairston Sr., his brother Peter Hairston, and two sisters, Laura Stevenson and Eunice Wells Spurlock.
In addition to his wife, Arthur leaves to cherish his memories: three sons, Gary Smart of Columbus, MS, Arhur (Zoe) Hairston, Jr. of West Point, MS, Albert (Shameka) Hairston of Columbus, MS; one daughter, Tolita (Tavares) Middlebrooks of Columbus, GA; two sisters, Rosie Hairston of Cincinnati, OH and Christine Carter of Kankakee, IL; one brother, Albert Hairston Jr. of Kankakee, IL; 13 grandchildren; special cousins, Margaret Hairston, Daniel Hairston and Mike Mattix. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
