Obituary

Dessie Phine Moore was born December 29, 1941, in Brooksville, Mississippi to the union of James Moore and Hattie Lee (Bush) Moore. She was second oldest of six children.

She gave birth to her only child, Sharon Denise Moore in 1962.

Dessie attended Baldwin Elementary School (owned by Baldwin Methodist Church where she was a member) in Noxubee County, MS. She attended Wilson High School 9th through 11th grades until all schools in the county were consolidated. She completed her High School education at Mason High School in Macon, MS.

After graduation she moved to New York City. She attended a Methodist Church there and song in the choir.

Early on in New York she worked in the Handbag Industry make high end purses. Later, she worked for Mount Sinai Hospital where she was a dedicated employee that was loved by both patients and staff.

She hosted many special birthdays and New Year Eve parties that everyone looked forward to annually.

After 40 plus years in New York she took an early retirement and moved back to Mississippi to care for her mother. She reunited with Baldwin United Methodist Church where she was a devoted and dedicated member until her death. She worked to achieve many projects at the church by getting assistance from current and former members. Dessie reconnected with old friends and established many new friendships where she was well known in the area. She loved to listen to Cleo Sanders play gospel songs every Sunday morning. She looked forward to him playing, "The Leaning Tree is not the First to Fall." Also, a shout out from a special friend, Queen.

Dessie was known as a person who cared deeply for family and friends. Everyone knew she would check on them often and never missed sending out cards and making phone calls.

Dessie departed this life on Thursday, May 11, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Hattie Lee Moore; daughter, Sharon Denise Moore; sister, Earnestine Moore Latten; brother, Robert "Bubba" Moore; nephews, Michael J. Moore, Paul Anthony Latten, and Robin Moore.

She leaves to cherish many memories, two sisters, Bessie Moore of Union City, GA, and Mary M. (Plummer) Jones of Durham, NC; one brother, James (Shelley) Moore Jr. of Fayetteville, GA; grandson, Antonio Jeremy Moore of Los Angeles, CA; life long friend, Ruth Nicholson Long of Macon, MS; special cousin, Amanda Moore; adopted grandson, Ivan Goodwin of Brooksville, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
