Obituary

Dorothy Ann Bailey was born December 29, 1956, in Columbus, MS to Flozell Brewer and Cendie Hall.  She transitioned to her eternal home on April 13, 2025. Dorothy confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age and carried her faith throughout her life. She was a member of Maranatha Faith Center until death.

Dorothy, affectionately known as Essie Pearl, was a loving, hardworking, and ambitious woman. Her children were her everything, and she sacrificed for them up until the very end. Dorothy taught her children how to love, be respectful, be independent, and appreciate family. She could accomplish anything she set her mind to. She knew what she wanted and she would work hard to get it.

She enjoyed her work at Baptist Memorial hospital as a switchboard operator for 24 years until her retirement in June 2024. She was excited for the future and to be able to move to Georgia to be near her children, but God had other plans.

Dorothy will forever be remembered for the way she loved her children, family, and friends. She was a woman of class, integrity, grace, and strength, and her presence will forever be missed.

She is preceded in death by her father, Flozell Brewer and one sister, Bertha Moore.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her loving memories: her mother, Cendie Hall of Columbus, MS; children, Nicholas Johnson of Atlanta, GA and Daketa Johnson of Loganville, GA; one grandchild, Destiny Johnson of Macon, MS; siblings, Linda (Dave) Talley of Valdosta, GA, Gladys (Willie) Harris, Diashon "Tabitha" Bailey, Yvette (Matthias) Jamison all of Columbus, MS, Noco (Demorra) Walls of Anniston, AL, Larry (Felicia) Brewer and Paul Brewer both of Muskegon, MI, Tonnie Harris of Detroit, MI, Terrence (Mary Ellen) Rainey of Cleveland, OH, Diane (Bernard) Bridges, Cassie Sanders, Rosie Marie Sanders all of Columbus, MS, Dorothy Miller of Covington, GA; one aunt, Bessie Dale Prowell.
