Dorothy Ruth Sherrod Ellis was born May 30, 1960 to James and Lucinda Sherrod, Sr. in Columbus, Mississippi.
Dorothy accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined Pleasant Grove Full Gospel Baptist Church. She had a heart for serving God and others. She was not only a faithful member but served diligently in the Usher and Hospitality Ministry.
After graduating from Motley Attendance Center in 1978, she attended college and later became a Certified Nursing Assistance. Dorothy worked at Generations of Vernon for several years and was later employed with the North Mississippi Regional Center at James W. Hunt Community Home. Dorothy had a passion for baking and in 2021, she founded Dorothy's Sweet Treats out of her love for baking and sharing her craft with others.
In 1995, she married Leonard Ellis. On April 26, 2023, she transitioned from her labor to reward and went home to be with the Lord.
She is preceded in death by her parents James and Lucinda Sherrod, Sr.; her oldest brother, Randolph (Randy) Robinson and her grandson, Robert Williams II.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Leonard Ellis of Columbus, MS; three daughters, Latresia (Robert) Williams of Tupelo, MS, Tosunda (Marcus) Hill of Columbus, MS, and Cornita Sherrod of Columbus, MS; six grandchildren, Kobe Matthews, Jaquavis Sherrod, Johnathan Sherrod, Jayden Sherrod, Robert Williams III, and Caleb Williams; five sisters, Linda (Edward) Phillips of Columbus, MS, Patricia (Lynn Ray) Pratt of Pittsboro, MS, Ella Louise Brown of Columbus, MS, Shelia Sherrod of Jackson, MS and Connie Coleman of Jackson, MS; two brothers, James (Wanda) Sherrod Jr. of Columbus, MS and Calvin Lamar Sherrod of Columbus, MS; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
