Obituary

Eddie Skipper, Jr., affectionately known to all as "Sonny," departed this life on February 17, 2026, in Akron, Ohio. Born on June 25, 1945, in Columbus, Mississippi, Sonny was the beloved son of Clara and Eddie Lee Skipper, Sr.

In 1985, Sonny made the significant move to Akron, Ohio, which quickly became his cherished home. He dedicated many years as a skilled concrete finisher and construction worker, contributing his hard work and craftsmanship to his community until an injury led to his retirement.

Beyond his professional life, Sonny found immense joy in the simple pleasures that enriched his soul. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and contentment by the water's edge. He cherished moments spent hanging out with his friends, sharing laughter and stories that built lasting bonds. Family fellowship was incredibly important to him, and he treasured every opportunity to connect with his loved ones. A lifelong learner, Sonny also had a deep love for reading, often found lost in the pages of a good book.

Sonny was preceded in death by his loving parents, Clara and Eddie Lee Skipper, Sr., as well as his two sisters, Mattie Brown and Lucy Smith, and two brothers, Ernest Skipper and Charlie Skipper. Their reunion in eternal peace brings comfort to those who mourn.

He leaves a legacy of cherished memories to his devoted siblings: Williams Skipper of Columbus, Mississippi; Annie Skipper-Lewis of Birmingham, Alabama; Gracy (Bennie) Skipper-Givens of Columbus, Mississippi; and Alvin Skipper of Columbus, Mississippi. Sonny will also be fondly remembered by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends who were touched by his kind spirit and gentle presence.
