Obituary

Ella M. Brown was the second eldest daughter born to the late William Brown, Sr. and the late Lula Mae Tate Brown on January 3, 1944, in Noxubee County, Mississippi. Ella was preceded in death by her sister, Fannie Staples, her brother William Brown, Jr. and her grandson Jonathan Antwon James.

Ella loved her church family. She was a kind and devoted church member. She joined Zion Gate M.B. Church and was baptized by Dr. James A. Boyd. In her younger years, she devoted her time to the Willing Workers committee and attended Sunday School faithfully. She was also a member of the Missionary Society in later years. She remained a loyal tithe paying member until her death. She attended services faithfully via FB live each Sunday since the pandemic and participated in telephone Bible Study.

Ella loved people.  One of her favorite sayings was, "It's just nice to be nice". She befriended and mothered many in the community while working at Johnston Tombigbee Manufacturing Company for nearly 40 years. She is fondly remembered by many as "Ms. Brown" and her hard work, wit and wisdom was second to none. She believed in having a good sense of humor to make it through the hard times. She was someone who could walk with Kings and she never lost the common touch.

Ella was a proud mother and loved her children, Lawrence (LeShaun), Daphne (Jonathan) and Kanesha (Conrad) and her "play daughter" Terri. She raised them and instilled in them to stay rooted and grounded in the word of God. She loved to talk about her children and never hesitated to hold them accountable for doing the right thing. She believed that her kids were no better than anybody else…but they were also not any less.

In addition to raising her own children, Ella was a doting grandmother to her grandchildren Beverly (Bryant), Valandria, Rochelle, Tashiana (Stephen), Lawrence, Tyler (Sanitra), Jaylin, Ken, Kolton, and Landen and seven great grandchildren.

Ella leaves to cherish her memories: two sisters, Julia B. Billups, Bernice Brown; and one brother, Ernest B. Tate all of Youngstown, OH.  She also leaves a close circle of friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and other adoptive family members.
