Ella D. Hood-Little was born July 28, 1923 in Noxubee County, Mississippi. She was one of eleven children born to Jimmie and Ella Gavin-Hood. She attended the public school system in Noxubee County, Mississippi and Millport, Alabama, where she grew up. She departed this life on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Windsor Place Nursing Center.
Ella D. Hood-Little, also affectionately known as Hun, Mom E, Aunt Dee and Mama Ella. For many years, she loved entertaining her family, friends and neighbors. She allowed her grandchildren to host neighborhood gatherings and fun festivities underneath her carport. She thoroughly enjoyed being a homemaker, working in her garden, traveling, spending precious time with her children, grandchildren and neighborhood children. Her spiritual legacy as a prayer warrior, dedication of love and friendship to all who knew her will be cherished memories are forever engraved in the hearts. Mrs. Little's heart of service was unimaginably wonderful.
Ella D. Hood-Little accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age where she attended James Creek M.B. Church. Later joining, St. John M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Amaziah Bailey, Sr. Mrs. Little served as Deaconess with the responsibility for baking bread for communion service. It was evident in her lifetime that she possessed an unwavering commitment to her Lord, church and family. In the mid 1950's, Mrs. Little joined Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist, now presently United Faith Center Full Gospel Baptist Church, under the leadership of Overseer Bennie Coleman, where she served on the Mother's Board. All of her children, walked alongside her to church in the early days. She carried herself as a classy example of love and grace. Mrs. Little is recognized as the oldest member of her beloved church. Her amazing 100 years on earth is a true testimony of living a life dedicated unto the Lord
Ella D. Hood-Little was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie and Ella Hood, her dear husband, Eddie J. Little, Sr.; siblings, Bessie Shanklin, Mary Hood, Abraham "Abe" Hood, Edward Hood, Sr., Robert Hood, Talmage "Shane" Hood, Charlie "Dave" Hood, William Isaiah Hood, Steve Hood, two of her children, Walter J. Little, Mattie Little-Sanpang, and a precious granddaughter, Amelia McLeod.
Ella D. Hood-Little leaves a lifetime of fond memories to cherish with her last living sister, Lena Hood-Walker of Cleveland, Ohio. Also, her six children of Columbus, MS, Ella (Thomas) McLeod, Whirllie (Willie) Byrd, Mary Ross, Richard Little, Ronald Little, Alan (Cathy) Little and two children of Tupelo, MS, Lucy Knight and Eddie J. Little, Jr. Mrs. Little adored and loved all of her fine-looking grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, relatives, neighbors, church members and friends who will take comfort in a lifetime of precious memories.
