Obituary

Eugene Shields, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love and faith. Born on May 2, 1954, in Columbus, Mississippi, to Mack and Rosie (Moses) Shields, Eugene was a man of deep conviction and unwavering spirit.

Eugene's journey through life was marked by his profound love for his family and his steadfast faith. He met the love of his life, Brenda Shields, in Houston, Texas, and together they shared 39 beautiful years. Their bond was a testament to the power of love and partnership, and they cherished every moment spent together.

In a selfless act of devotion, Eugene and Brenda returned to Columbus to care for their aging parents, embodying the values of family and responsibility that he held dear. Eugene became an active member of the United Christian Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher, guiding and inspiring others with his wisdom and kindness.

Eugene dedicated over 25 years of his life to Weyerhaeuser as an electrician and instrumentation technician, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. He retired in July 2018, where he began living the second act of his life.

A God-fearing man, Eugene embraced life to the fullest, finding joy in the simple pleasures that included a joke that would always make you laugh. His warm smile, gentle spirit, and huge heart touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Willie Mack Shields.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Shields of Columbus, MS; his children, Christina (Carl) Fowler of Houston, TX, Jeremy Eugene Shields of Cape Coral, FL and Sean Patrick Eugene Shields of Columbus, MS; his grandchildren, Carson Fowler, Cara Fowler and Carys Fowler, Jemma Shields and Jade Shields; his siblings, William Shields, Lillian (Charles) Evans, Mattie Shields, Kathy  (Loronzo) Morris, Vonda K. Shields; and Lillie Skipwith; a sister-in-law, Lanell Shields;  a special niece, Sonya Haynes; and a host of family and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts. As we celebrate his life, let us remember the love that he shared, the lessons he taught, and the faith he lived by.
