Evelyn
Walker
March 29, 1949 – November 21, 2025
Evelyn was born on March 29, 1949, in Steens, MS, the child of the late Everlena Coleman and the late Willie Lee Moore.
She married Carnell Walker and moved to Chicago, Illinois. They welcomed a son, Cornell Walker, into their lives. They shared many happy years together until Carnell's passing. Evelyn dedicated over 25 years to working at Sears Department Store during her time in Chicago. After returning to Columbus, Mississippi, she continued her dedicated career, working at the Trinity Place Retirement Community.
Outside of work, Evelyn poured her time and heart into her faith, family, and passion for baking.
She was a walking example of what it means to be a woman of God, dedicating many years of service to Military Chapel United Methodist Church. There, she faithfully served on the Usher Board, the Women of Faith Organization, Finance Committee, Adult and the Kitchen Committee.
Evelyn loved her family deeply, dedicating much of her time to them, whether it was working with them in the garden or enjoying family vacations. She was an enthusiastic traveler, taking many memorable trips; her last was to Biloxi, MS, in July 2025.
She will be remembered for her welcoming spirit, headstrong determination, and her particular taste of nice things or in her words, "I like what I like". She will also be fondly remembered for her decadent caramel cake.
