Obituary

Gregory Leon Virgil, Sr., a cherished husband, devoted father, talented musician, and beloved friend, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, November 30, 2025. Born on August 23, 1967, in Augusta, GA, Gregory was the son of Lewis T. and Ida M. Virgil, who instilled in him a strong sense of family values and a passion for life.

A proud 1985 graduate of Caldwell High School, Gregory furthered his education at Mississippi State University. For 24 years, he dedicated himself to a fulfilling career at Tronox, from which he retired in 2013.

On July 17, 1988, Gregory married his soulmate, LaShae, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. They were blessed with a wonderful son, Gregory II, who was the light of Gregory's life.

Gregory was an active member of Maranatha Faith Center Church of God in Christ, where he wore many hats of service.  He poured his heart into the music ministry.  His passion for music began at Fifteenth Street Church of God in Christ, where he faithfully served as a musician playing guitar, organ, and drums. He was the founder of Praise, Inc. in 1993. He also shared his musical talents at Beulah Grove Full Gospel Baptist Church dedicating his gifts to inspire and uplift others.

Gregory's legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the countless souls he touched through his music. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, infectious spirit, and the love he shared with everyone around him.

Gregory is preceded in death by his parents Lewis T. and Ida Mae Virgil, father-in-law, Pastor Steve Jamison, his brother, William D. Virgil and his sister-in-law, Chars Virgil.

He leaves his precious memories to his loving wife, Getina LaShae Virgil of Columbus, MS; his son, Gregory L. (Petrice) Virgil II of Columbus, MS; his siblings, Sharon Virgil Wilson of Columbus, MS, Lewis T. (Lillian) Virgil Jr. of Jackson, MS and Michael C. (Renee) Virgil of Starkville, MS; mother-in-love, LoRen Jamison of Columbus, MS; his grandchildren, Gregory "Trey" Virgil, III, Mekhi Virgil and Elijah Virgil.  He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
