James Earl Colvin, born on November 7, 1958, in Columbus, Mississippi to Early and Mary Colvin.
He confessed his life to Christ at an early age. He worshiped at 15th Street of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder George Copprue Sr. He later united with Columbus Christian Center under Pastor Kenny Gardner, he also would worship with Shiloh Full Gospel Missionary Baptist Church. James dedicated 46 years as a heavy machine operator with Mississippi APAC, James was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his profession. He was a passionate outdoors man, James enjoyed fishing and hunting, finding joy in nature and the tranquility it provided. He was an avid sports fan, with a special affinity for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Mississippi State Bulldogs. His enthusiasm for sports was contagious, bringing family and friends together to share in the excitement. He also loved to sing with the group Mississippi Nightingales, where he shared his love for music as a gospel singer.
On December 17, 2024 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, James made his earthly transition to his heavenly home. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Shondale Hayden, Sr.; and his brother, Amos Jones James was married to his beloved wife, Jacqueline Hayden Colvin, for 44 cherished years. The couple met in Memphis Town and built a life filled with love and laughter. Together, they raised four children: Shondale, Shemekeo, Shannon, and Shalondia
James is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Hayden-Colvin; his daughters, Shemekeo Hayden, Shannon (Michael) Colvin- Richmond and Shalondia (Corey) Colvin Weston all of Columbus, MS; his daughter-in-law, Laquita Hodo Hayden; his grandchildren, Shondale Jr., D'Artagnan, D'Marius, Deidrea, Scotavis, Javoris, Jacorry and 3 great-grandchildren his siblings: Hilda Williams of Savannah, GA, and Danny (Brenda) Colvin, Judy (Emitt) Ross, and Lucious D. (Linda Brewer) Colvin all of Columbus, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His warm spirit and dedication to family, faith, and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
