John Lee Barksdale, affectionately known as Coot, passed away on January 26, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on June 21, 1963, in Columbus, Mississippi to Belton Lang and Ida Mae Barksdale, he spent his life in the community he cherished.

Coot worked as a laborer at Columbus Fence, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He was a valued member of his team and made many lasting friendships throughout his career.

A devoted family man, Coot loved spending time with his family and friends, often bringing joy and laughter to those around him. He was a respected member of Zion Hill M.B. Church, where he actively participated in community activities and shared his kindness with others.

John is preceded in death by his parents;  brother, Mack Lang and his sister, Betty Newman.

Coot leaves to cherish his beloved memories: his son, Antonio L. Conner of Columbus, MS; his siblings, Barbara Ann (Tommie) Smith,  Willie Barksdale, Dorothy (Marvin) Washington, Rose Mae (James) Barksdale-Smith, Jimmie Barksdale, Kelvin B. Smith, Joe (Sharon) Wells, Johnny (Tawanda) Wells, Mary Wells, Bennie Wells all of Columbus, MS, Mary Smith of Starkville, MS, Rose Wells of Detroit, MI, and Zettie (Ricky) Martin of Racine, WI; his life long companion, Emma Conner of Columbus, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
