Johnny Tyrone Hampton, Sr. was born to Sallie "Ran" Hampton and Johnny Wilson on April 2, 1961, in Columbus, Mississippi. He was the second oldest in a lively household of eight siblings. "He attended Caldwell High School in 1976 where he was a star athlete participating in many sports, including baseball, track, and football in a newly integrated Caldwell in the 70's.
After graduating high school in 1980, he enrolled into Rust College to pursue his bachelor's degree. While there, Johnny pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. in 1982 and he majored in Mass Communications, graduating in 1984.

Johnny also loved serving as a voice and advocate against any, and all social injustices of minorities.
It was well known that Johnny shared a major passion for cooking, throwing parties, flamboyant fashion, politics, videography, photography, watching his favorite football team the Pittsburg Steelers, and spending time with family and friends. He also leaves behind man's best friend, his loyal furry companion, Rocko, whom he loved.
Throughout his lifetime, Johnny received various awards for many contributions which included Humanitarian and Community Impact Award, medals for his service while in Military, TP Harris Elks Lodge awards for his countless contributions as a devoted member, and he served as Grand Marshall for the Juneteenth Festival "2023".
