Joseph "Some
Else" Howard, Jr.
January 15, 1954 – April 1, 2025
Joseph Howard Jr., affectionately known as "Some Else," passed away on April 1, 2025 at the age of 71. Born on January 15, 1954, in Columbus, MS, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.
Joseph was the son of Joseph Howard Sr. and Willie Mae Howard, both of whom preceded him in death. He is also preceded by: his brother, Larry Howard; his grandchildren: Jarrius "JG" Gillespie and Toni Kidd; his great-grandson, Marquez "MJ" Carter, Jr,; and his son-in-law, Charles Saffore.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Joseph was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He spent over 40 years as a foreman and supervisor at Harpole Steel, where his leadership and commitment earned him the respect of his colleagues. Joseph was also a member of the choir at Oak Grove M.B. Church, where his love for music and the community shined brightly.
An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Joseph found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as grocery shopping and celebrating with family and friends. He was truly the life of the party, known for his infectious laughter, dancing, and singing, which brought happiness to everyone around him.
Joseph's warm spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Joseph Howard Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and strength that will continue to inspire those he touched throughout his life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Howard, and their cherished family, including daughters: Daphne Mitchell Miller, Gwendolyn Gibbs, Bronzella (Bruce) Hughes, Valarie (Steve) Moody, Shereen Mitchell, Lashonda (Tavares) Mosley, and Regina (Terrance) Maxwell; and one son, Ryan Gibbs; special son-in-law, Jimmy Raye Miller. He also leaves behind his sister, Elaine H. Sherman of Columbus, MS and brother, Marshall (Faye) Howard of Marietta, GA, along with a remarkable legacy of 29 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
