Leon Yahdah
Shelton
March 19, 1963 – July 13, 2024
Leon, Yahdah, Shelton, son of the late John and Mattie M. Shelton, was born on March 19, 1963 in Brooksville, Ms. (Fairport Community). He was the tenth of twelve siblings. During his early years of life, he was baptized under the leadership of Pastor J.H. Cockrell and joined Union Chapel M.B. Church. He later joined The House Of Yahweh, in Abilene Texas, and was a faithful member until his untimely death on July 13, 2024.
Leon was a graduate of Noxubee County High School class of 1981 (Macon, MS). He was employed with Mississippi Valley Gas and with Columbus Marble Works in Columbus for many years. He also worked various jobs while living in Abilene, TX.
Leon was a very peaceful person with an infectious smile and demeanor. He was loved by many and loved to interact with positive individuals. Leon relocated to Abilene, Texas in 2020. He loved studying the bible scriptures and worked to display these qualities in everyday life. Whenever he would visit Leon would have great conversations with his siblings, nieces, and nephews. At the end of his visits, he would say I'm fixing to go home and do some reading of the scriptures to increase my knowledge of our heavenly father.
He always had a positive outlook on life and gave each and everyone the benefit of the doubt. He loved Yahweh whole heartedly, with all of his heart, soul, and might. He was a faithful servant until the very end.
He is preceded in death by his parents: John and Mattie M. Shelton, sister, Maggie B. Shelton, brothers, Ruben Shelton and Jimmie Lee Shelton.
Leon's memories will forever be cherished by his siblings: L.V. Shelton of Wilmington, CA, Willie Ernest Shelton and Willie James Shelton of Brooksville, MS, Lille Shelton of Columbus, MS, Hazel Shelton of Abilene, TX, Mary Shelton-Ross of Biloxi, MS, John Earl Shelton of Cypress, CA, and Anthony Shelton of Long Beach, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends, all who loved him dearly.
