Obituary

Mrs. Lessie Bell Burgin Hayden Taylor was born November 27, 1937, in Columbus, MS to Charlie and Mary Burgin.

Mrs. Lessie confessed Christ at an early age at Mount Zion M.B. Church.

She later united with New Zion M.B. Church in Steens, MS. where she remained a faithful member until her heavenly transition on August 4, 2022.

Mrs. Taylor was formally employed with the Columbus Municipal School District as a Child Nutrition Manager for many years. She was also formally employed at Windsor Nursing Home as a dietary aide. She LOVED cooking, gardening, and singing. Mrs. Lessie faithfully sang quartet with the Mississippi Gospel Aires for over 30 years. Although she loved her chickens, her greatest passions were fishing and spending time with her loving family.

Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mary Burgin; husband, Willie Earl Taylor; daughter, Ernestine Hayden; three brothers, Leroy Burgin, Charlie Burgin, Jr. (Sonny) and Willie George Burgin; three sisters, Helen Burgin, Ruby Jones and Bessie Hall; three grand- children, Te'Kerra Brown, Shondale Hayden, Sr., Ashley Shields and five great grandchildren.

Mrs. Lessie leaves to cherish her memories: her children; Helen Cameron (James) of New Orleans, LA., Debra Clay (Robert) of Steens, MS., Ricky Hayden (Dorothy), Mary Dukes (Lorenzo), Brenda Colvin (Danny), Jacqueline Colvin (James), Trina Bourne (Leonard), Dairron Hayden, Sherron Henry (Victor), Veronica Sharkey (James), William Hayden, Wanda Johnson (Tony) and Nathaniel Hayden all of Columbus; her siblings, Mary Ann Burgin, Elnora McShan, and Lucille Davis; Godson, Elder Frederick Shelton; 34 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
