Obituary

Lucille Harmon Roane, a proud Veteran of the United States Army, passed away September 13, 2023.  As the daughter of Marie and Earvin Harmon, Sr., Lucille grew up in Macon, Mississippi. She was born January 3, 1963.

She graduated from Noxubee County High in May 1980.  She graduated from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work.  She went on to earn a degree as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Baylor University.

At the age of 17, Lucille enlisted in the United States Army.  She valued this service highly and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class.  As part of this service, she served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm conflict from August 1990 to March of 1991. Medals earned: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Achievement Medal (5th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 2, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Kuwait Liberation Medal (K), Kuwait Liberation Medal (SA), Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar.

Through her service as a Social Worker she worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs, advocating for Veterans and their families for more than 10 years during which time, she wrote, "Healing Military Wounds" and she founded, "Honor In Truth" Veterans Organization. She helped countless Veterans and their families, tell their story, pursue disability entitlements and receive the compensation they so richly deserve.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Marie Harmon and Earvin Harmon, Sr.

She is survived by her husband, McKinley Roane, Sr.; daughters, Amanda and Kim (Aaron, Antonio); her sons, Brandon (Atlas), and McKinley Jr. Lucille is also survived by nine siblings:  Earnestine George, Ruby Harmon, Thelma Temms, Earvin Harmon, Jr., Charlie Harmon, Patricia Harmon, Julie Coleman, Earnest Harmon, Sr., and Aretha Harmon-Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
