Obituary

On June 14, 1958, Mary Jean Cockrell was born to the late Lillie Bell Cockrell and Jimmie Lee Neal.

She peacefully entered eternal rest at her home, on July 14, 2025, in Macon, MS.

Mary confessed to Christ at early age and joined the Mt. Carmel M.B. Church where she served as a devoted member of Deaconess Ministry, Women's Ministry, Pastor's-Aide Ministry, an honorary member of the Usher Ministry, and Sunday School teacher until her death.

She was a proud graduate of the Noxubee County High School Class of 1976.

Mary Jean Cockrell was united in holy matrimony to the late Deacon Joe L. Taylor Thompson. She was an active member of Starlight Chapter #037.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, Minister Pauline Grisson, Paula Neal, Essie Neal, Paul Cockrell and Ronnie Cockrell, and three children, Lillian Cockrell, Travis S. Cockrell and Kynike L. Cockrell- Stewart.

Mary leaves to cherish her sweet memories, her children, Robert Cockrell of Macon, MS, and Lovelillie Ann Cockrell of Brooksville, MS; a special niece, Danielle Brandon; five sisters, JoAnn Brandon, Linda Cockrell, Bessie (Archie) Glenn, Sarah (Eddie) Pippin, Sarah Graham, all of Macon, MS; two brothers, Rufus (Barbara) Cockrell and Jimmie Lee Neal Jr., both of Macon, MS; ten grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Demone Cunningham, Antraveon Cockrell Stewart, Kehemiah Stewart, Tamarian Stewart, Ze'rah Stewart, Jaylon Stewart; and four great grandchildren. Her special friends, Patricia Hodges, Earlean Dora, Audrey Cannon, Freddie Carter; and a very special sister, Mary Slaughter; her mother-in-law, Dollie Taylor; one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her loving spirit.
