Mary Ree Lewis, who departed this life on July 16, 2025, at the age of 84, was born on April 4, 1941, in Macon, Mississippi, Mary was the beloved daughter of Fessor Ree Lewis and Classie Brooks.
Mary was a woman of quiet strength and boundless kindness. She cherished her family above all, finding joy in gatherings filled with laughter, love, and the delicious meals she lovingly prepared. Her passion for cooking was matched only by her love for fishing, where she found peace and contentment in nature.
A devoted member of New Zion Pilgrim M.B. Church, Mary's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was known for her friendly demeanor and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her own family, as she lovingly raised many children, providing them with guidance and support throughout their lives.
Mary dedicated 30 years of her life to the Columbus City School District, where she served as a cook and janitor. Her commitment to her work and the children she served was evident in her daily interactions, and she was respected and admired by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Mary if preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Mary Ward, Sammie Lewis, Gleen Lewis, James Hill, Les Tate, L.B. Brooks, Willie Stewart, Curtis Stewart, Calvin Stewart and Allen Brooks.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Charlie) Moore; her God-daughter, Marilyn Poole; her siblings, Charlene (Cozean) Hendrick, Fessor (Jerlean) R. Lewis, Jr., Flossie Beasly, Charlie Lewis, Coldelia (William) White, Linda (Charles) Mathis, Beverly (Ray) Knox, Shirley Taylor and Carey Lewis, Mary (Lilton) Golden, Hattie (James) Bailey, Betty (Timothy) Dismuke, Diane Hill, N.S. (Debra) Brooks, and Isaac Brooks; 4 grandchildren, Terry Lewis, Carteshisa (Ben) Deloach, Joney Lewis, Christopher Lewis; 19 great-grandchildren, and four great-great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
