Obituary

Sister Mattie was born December 8, 1944, in Columbus, Mississippi to Joseph Stevenson and Hattie Upchurch Stevenson.

Mattie accepted Christ at an early age.  She was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as president of the Usher Board and on the Food Committee.  She had a quiet, humble spirit, having very little to say, but much kindness to offer. Sis. Mattie labored for 32 years as a Lead Operator for Maxxim Medical/Humboldt.

Sister Mattie loved flowers and plants. She would spend countless hours working in her yard for it was her pride and joy. If you ever passed by the house, you would see her dutifully working away.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Russell T. Stevenson.

Sister Mattie leaves to cherish her loving memories: her children, Janette Jones-Lewis of Harker Heights, Texas, Annette Stevenson of Columbus, Mississippi, Cassandra Watford of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Michael Williams of Columbus, Mississippi; her brother, Joe Stevenson of Columbus, Mississippi; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
