Pastor Bobby
Bowen
November 23, 1950 – February 24, 2025
A Life Dedicated to God and Ministry
Pastor Bobby Bowen was a Holy Ghost-filled man of God, a devoted spiritual leader, and a
beacon of faith. Many were touched by his powerful preaching, heartfelt prayers, and
unwavering commitment to bringing souls to Christ. His ministry was rooted in love, integrity,
and spiritual upliftment, leaving an indelible mark on all who encountered him.
Early Life and Education
Born on November 23, 1950, in West Point, Mississippi, Pastor Bowen was a proud native of his
community. He attended Brand Elementary and Beasley High School, where he laid the
foundation for his lifelong journey in faith and service. At just 15 years old, he demonstrated his
spiritual calling by becoming the Sunday School Superintendent at Union Baptist Church in
Prairie, MS.
A Life in Music and Ministry
As a young man, Pastor Bowen's gift for music flourished. He became well-known for singing
with The Fabulous United Travelers, a gospel group he managed for 10 years. Under his
leadership, the group recorded a hit song, further solidifying his passion for spreading the gospel
through music.
His journey in ministry officially began in 1976 when he was ordained as a deacon. In 1978, at
the age of 27, he accepted his calling to preach. His pastoral journey included:
1. Mt. Pisgah Waverly Baptist Church (West Point, MS) – 17 years
2. Chapel Hill Baptist Church (Starkville, MS) – 11 years
3. Second Baptist Church (Macon, MS) – 9 months
4. Christian Hill Missionary Baptist Church (Bigbee Valley, MS) – 44 years
Pastor Bowen's dedication to Christian Hill Missionary Baptist Church was unwavering. He had
planned to celebrate 45 years of pastoral service in April, but God had other plans. At one time,
he pastored three churches simultaneously, an extraordinary testament to his faith and dedication.
A Loving Husband and Devoted Father
On August 22, 1970, Pastor Bowen married the love of his life, Annie Bell Baskin Bowen. Their
union was blessed with five children: Bobby Len, Timothy, Rev. Alphonso, Rev. Alvin, and
April. Out of his children, two answered the call to ministry, following in their father's footsteps.
Pastor Bowen was a family man in every sense of the word. His home was filled with love,
wisdom, and unwavering faith. He not only raised his children in the Word but also had the
profound honor of baptizing each of them with his own hands. As they grew, he stood before
them once again—this time as their wedding officiant, blessing their unions with the same love
and devotion he had shown them all his life. His example of fatherhood and marriage was a
testament to his belief that a strong family reflected a strong faith.
Leadership, Service, and Community Impact
Pastor Bowen's passion for ministry extended far beyond the pulpit. He was a guiding force in
his community, leading and serving in numerous capacities. His leadership roles included serving
as the Ministers Advisory Committee Chairman, Chairman of the Christian Hill Daycare Center,
and Vice President of the Ministers of Mission. He was also the Chairman of the Christian Hill
Be in Good Health Wellness Initiatives, reflecting his commitment to holistic well-being within
his congregation and community.
An active member of the National Baptist Congress, U.S. Inc., he dedicated himself to advancing
ministry education and pastoral training. He also served as a chaplain at North Mississippi
Medical Center, offering comfort and spiritual guidance to those in need. Committed to
continuous learning, he pursued theological education at M.I. College, where he earned a
diploma and specialized training in homiletics and pastoral leadership. His legacy of service and
leadership will be remembered by many.
A Legacy of Faith and Love
Pastor Bobby Bowen was a devoted servant of God who touched countless lives through his
preaching, counseling, and community service. His unwavering faith, commitment to ministry,
and love for his family will forever be cherished.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Bowen and Emma Lue Nance Bowen, his
oldest son Bobby Len Bowen, and three of his brothers. He was one of 13 siblings, and his
memory will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, extended family,
church family, and the many people whose lives he impacted throughout his ministry.
As we celebrate his life and legacy, we remember his favorite saying: "By the grace of the
Lord, I've come a long way." And truly, he did. He walked this journey with faith, preached
with conviction, served with love, and left behind a testimony of a life well-lived for Christ. His
work on earth is done, and now he rests in the arms of the Savior he so faithfully served.
