Sis. Ruby Jean Tucker was born in Columbus, MS to Charlie and Ruby Hughes on March 25, 1942. She accepted Christ as her personal savior and was a lifelong member of Glenn Chapel C.M.E. Church. She served as an usher and assisted with the culinary ministry. She received her education in the Columbus Municipal School District. Ruby began her employment with Mitchell Memorial School as a cook and later with Kroger Deli in Columbus, MS for over 30 years. She cooked with love, as everyone loved and requested her cooking. She not only cooked as her career, but in her home for her family and friends as well. Ruby also enjoyed gardening in spare time. Ruby married Odie V. Tucker, Jr. in 1957 and their union was blessed with seven children.

Sis. Ruby Tucker departed this life on Sunday, November 5, 2023, in Decatur, GA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Odie V. Tucker, Jr., her twin sons and her daughter, Patricia Tucker Shumake. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ruby Hughes; her sisters: Jerrie Morris, Kam Johnson, and Debra Davis; her brother: Charlie Hughes, Jr., her sister-in-law, Cheyann Hughes; and her brothers in law, Billy Morris and Troy Porter.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Gregory (Arigesta) Tucker of Colorado Springs, CO, Donald (Deborah) Tucker of Douglasville, GA, Kalvin (Lauretta) Tucker of Columbus, MS, and Sonja (Anthony) Brewer of Lithonia, GA; fifteen grand- children; 29 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Christine Hughes, Cathy (Cornell) Mitchell, and Lisa Hughes all of Columbus, MS, Ellen Porter and Angelia (Tom) Cotton both of Atlanta, GA; her brothers, Malone Hughes of Madison, MS, Floyzell (Tavetia) Hughes of Columbus, MS, and Charles (Ladora) Hughes of Dallas, TX; her brothers-in-law, Tom Davis and Ned Curtis Johnson both of Columbus, MS; her sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Hughes of Stockton, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
