Mother Ruth Johnson peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on January 22, 2024, at the Windsor Nursing Home in Columbus, MS at the beautiful age of 94. Mother Johnson entered this world to the parents of Willie and Essie Smith Evans on November 12, 1929. She was born and raised in the Pepper Hill Community. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age at Pepper Hill M.B. Church.
Mother Ruth Johnson received her education and obtained her high school diploma. She later met and married David J. Johnson, Sr. They moved from Lowndes County to the city of Columbus and established a wonderful life. After moving to Columbus, she joined Canaan M.B. Church where she remained a member. She was employed for a number of years with Sanderson Plumbing until retirement. She furthered her employment history with private care as a housekeeper. Ruth, known as "Baby Ruth" enjoyed church, family, and eating.
Mother Ruth Johnson is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, David J. Johnson, Sr.; and her brothers: Willie James Hudson and Early J. Hudson.
The legacy of Ruth Johnson will forever be cherished by her children: Pastor David J. (Beatrice) Johnson, Jr., Joe E. (Rosie) Johnson, and Trina Johnson all of Columbus, MS, Juan (Judy) Johnson of Baltimore, MD, and Pastor John F. (Tamara) Johnson of Houston, TX; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchid; other relatives, friends, and church members
