Teresa Hughes was born April 10, 1962, in Columbus, MS to Mary Frances and Tom Frank Billups. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined United Christian Baptist Church in Columbus, MS. Teresa attended schools and graduated from S.D. Lee High School. She later enrolled in Alcorn State University where she earned her bachelor's degree. While attending Alcorn, she was pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She was employed with Columbus Light and Water for a number of years in customer service until retirement.

Teresa was united in holy matrimony to Dale Ellis Hughes Sr., and they were blessed to have two children: Dale Hughes, Jr, and Tenesha Hughes. Teresa was a quiet but hardworking woman who loved her family dearly. She also enjoyed traveling.

She is preceded in death by: her father, Tom Frank Billups; her husband, Dale Ellis Hughes Sr.; and her sister, Mitiez Lopez Billups.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children. Dale Hughes. Jr. of Columbus, MS and Tenesha Hughes of Atlanta, GA: three brothers. Bruce Billups (Sybil) of Fairburn, GA. Steven Billups (Becky) of Covington GA, Randall Cooper of Dickson, TN. Her Mother Mary Frances Williams (Eddie) of Columbus, MS two sisters-in-law, Carla Hughes, and Olivia Spann (Sammie), both of Columbus MS. one brother-in-law Felton Hughes (Janice) of Steens, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and all whose hearts are filled with memories of Teresa Hughes that will last forever.
