Obituary

Mrs. Virginia Carr Hall (Jean) was born November 23, 1937 in Mashulaville, MS to the late Willie Martin Carr Sr. & Mary Alice Thomas Carr. She was the eldest of five children. She departed this life to be with the Lord April 25, 2023. Virginia celebrated holy matrimony to the late Mr. Cleotha Hall. To this union they were blessed with one daughter.

Virginia accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member and worker at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church until her earthly body begin to fail. She loved the Lord and strived to live a life according to His word. She lived a life of gentleness, joy, peace, and kindness for anyone she came in contact with. She had a fiery spirt with loads of energy to give strength and courage to everyone she met. Virginia had a natural nurturing spirit that loved everyone especially children and pets.

Virginia graduated in 1956 from Macon Colored High School in Macon, MS. She pursed a career as a licensed cosmetologist for over 65 years. She continued perfecting her skills for the betterment of African American hair culture at Dudley Cosmotologists University in Greensboro, NC. Virginia served as a lifelong member of the Mississippi Independent Beautician Association where she loved to be in their many fashion shows. She worked in many faucets of the hair industry including mortuary stylist, nursing home stylist, and product demonstrator for Dudley and E.F. Young products. Virginia was known for her hair pressing skills, jheri curls and her "growing hair" hands.

She loved to shop, cook for large crowds, be with her family and friends, travel the world, and being a doting grandmother. Virginia was a social butterfly that never met a stranger. She loved to go to church and singing programs and would easily go to multiple churches on any given Sunday. At the golden age of 85, Virginia never slowed down.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Mary Alice Carr and beloved husband, Cleotha Hall.

Virginia leaves to cherish a wonderful legacy of love to her daughter, Mrs. Shawnetta Hill (Demetrius) of Meridian, MS; step-daughter, Mrs. Joyce Gibbs (Leo) of Bloomington, IL; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Johnson (Charles) of Calumet City, IL, Mrs. Dorothy Alexander of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Mr. Willie Carr, Jr. (Delois) and Mr. David Carr (Francis) both of Columbus, MS; one grandson, Mr. Micah Hill of Meridian, MS and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
