Wanda Dean
Harris Hubbard
October 30, 1967 – August 20, 2025
Wanda Dean Harris Hubbard entered this world in New Brunswick, New Jersey on October 30, 1967 to Ruby Harris Ellis and the late Edgar Harper. Wanda departed this life on August 20, 2025 at Baptist Memorial Hospital GT in Columbus, MS.
Wanda, affectionately known as "Teddy", accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Calvary M.B. Church in Carrollton, Alabama. Later in life, she joined Shiloh Full Gospel M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Freddie Edwards Sr.
Her voice became her instrument of praise as she sung in the church choir— blending harmonies with the United Youth Group which was organized by the late Mrs. Henrietta Porter. The group's name was later changed to The Spiritual Harmonettes. Or, lifting her alto voice beside Fannie Lewis and the Lewis family of West Point, MS. And finally, being the founder and singer in the gospel quartet Chosen from Columbus, Mississippi until her health failed. Through song, Wanda gave glory to God and joy to His people.
Beyond the music, Wanda's gift of hospitality was just as powerful. Her passion for cooking became a ministry in itself. She was known for the warmth of her meals, especially when volunteering in the Children's Ministry at her church, where she delighted in preparing food that nourished both body and soul.
Though she was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Hubbard, her grandparents, Robert & Clara Harris and Annie Brown; four aunts, and a special cousin, Theresa Garber, Wanda's legacy lives on in the love she gave, the songs she sang, and the meals she prepared with joy.
She leaves to cherish her life her son, Re'Shan Harris; mother, Ruby Ellis of Columbus, MS Her God-parents, George and Lula Williams of Bishopville, SC; three God-daughters, Kimberly Mayfield, Tyieeshia Hill, and Courtney (Ken) Staples all of Columbus, MS; four God-grandchildren; one sister, Belinda (Dale) Hatchett of Fort Worth, TX; three God-sisters, Cynthia (Alex) Staples, Wanda Johnson, and Renata (Henry) Jennings; and one God-brother, Freddie (Sharesa) Edwards, Jr all of Columbus, MS; six aunts and one uncle, Annie Williams of New Brunswick, NJ, Gloria (Louis) Ross, Yovonne Smiley, Bonnie Scott, Priscilla (Walter) Waters, Melvina Harris and Robert Harris, Jr. all of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, cousins, and friends. Her circle of love extended far and wide. She also leaves two special cousins, Dean Mosley of Columbus, MS and Joe Garber of Triangle, Virginia; two special friends, Michael and Kimberlyn Shelton of Tuscaloosa, AL. Each carried a piece of her heart, just as she carried theirs.
